Designated Outdoor Refreshment Areas coming to Fort Wayne soon
Indiana House District 80 legislative and community update from Rep. Phil GiaQuinta
Dear neighbor:
I was excited to see the Fort Wayne City Council approve another Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA), this time at the Electric Works west campus, earlier this week. In 2023, I co-sponsored legislation to allow Fort Wayne to designate several outdoor districts as being exempt from Indiana’s outdoor container law.
Because of this law, our local economy will benefit from residents and out-of-town visitors making an occasion out of visiting a DORA, buying a drink from an approved business, and visiting the rest of the small businesses in the area while they enjoy their beverage.
In addition to the Electric Works west campus DORA, the City Council also recently approved the Downtown DORA, which can be seen in the below map.
I’m proud that a law I helped pass is hard at work making Fort Wayne a better place to live, work, and play. While neither DORA is open yet, the City plans to announce an opening date for the Downtown DORA soon.
