Free tree seedling giveaway
Tomorrow (Saturday, May 18), I will be handing out free tree saplings from the Department of Natural Resources’ nursery at the Fort Wayne Farmers Market at Electric Works. Please stop by for one free tree per household. Stop by — this is a great way to grow your yard’s tree cover!
Free Wetlands Tours on Saturday, May 18
Also tomorrow (Saturday, May 18), Fort Wayne City Utilities and Little Rivers Wetlands Project invite you to step into the heart of nature with the Catching Rain Passport Wetlands Tour.
Explore Fort Wayne's beautiful wetlands and celebrate World Wetlands Month with free tours that offer fun and education for the entire family.
Tour Schedule:
9:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Start at Beckett's Run Stream, 817 West Dupont Road. Receive a seed-embedded tour passport.
11:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Explore Eagle Marsh, 6801 Engle Road, and receive a free plant.
1:00 PM—3:00 PM: Finish at Camp Scott, 3615 Oxford Street. Complete your passport for free binoculars while supplies last.
Our wetlands are precious natural resources, and that’s why I voted against this year’s bad wetlands deregulation bill at the state legislative, House Enrolled Act 1383. We need them because of the excellent water filtration and floodwater absorption they provide, as well as serving as habitats for many wildlife species.
Fort Wayne holds its census ranking for 2023 at 83rd largest city in the country
Our community continues to grow, as shown by Fort Wayne’s updated ranking as the 83rd largest city in the country. I’ll continue to look for opportunities at the legislature to make sure Fort Wayne continues to be a great and affordable city to live, work, play, and stay.
